The new Boten to Vientiane Railway project is a cross-border railway project jointly promoted by the Chinese government and the Lao government, connecting Boten City in China's Yunnan province and Vientiane city, the capital of Laos, with a total length of about 414 kilometers and a design speed of 160 kilometers per hour. The railway is mainly built by Chinese enterprises such as China Railway Engineering Group Co., LTD., China Railway 18th Bureau Group Co., LTD., China Civil Engineering Group Co., LTD., and Lao enterprises such as Lao Aoser Railway Group Co., LTD. It is reported that the total investment of the railway construction is 6.3 billion US dollars, of which the Chinese investment accounts for 70%.
